Fabric painting workshop to empower Syrian widows

As part of Kuramaa’s Orphan and Widow Empowerment Program, a special art workshop in fabric painting was held in Lebanon, offering 60 widowed women a space to explore their artistic potential while gaining skills that may serve as a source of emotional healing and future income.

Fabric Painting: Art That Transforms Lives

From creativity to career potential

During the training, participants learned basic painting techniques, color coordination, and how to apply designs to various types of fabric. Under the guidance of a professional art trainer, they created beautiful, expressive pieces—some of which could evolve into marketable artistic products.

A safe space for expression and healing

The workshop wasn’t just about art—it was a mental and emotional outlet. For many of the women, painting offered a chance to process trauma, express feelings, and connect with others in a peaceful and respectful environment that encouraged renewal and connection.

Why Art Matters in Empowering Widows

Confidence through creativity

Each finished artwork represented more than skill—it was a statement of capability and self-worth. By engaging in this creative process, the widows discovered renewed confidence and personal strength, proving to themselves that healing and growth are still possible.

Building support through shared experience

The workshop fostered a sense of community and mutual support. Widows connected with one another, shared experiences, and created lasting bonds—all while learning skills that could lead to sustainable small-scale artistic ventures.
